The moat awaited demand for a super fast train to Delhi from the city would come true when the Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin non-stop Duronto’ express will be flagged off from Pune station on Tuesday.
This train will go through western route. This will be the only train running from Pune that reaches Delhi in a very short period of time- 20 hours.
Despite the four trains running on the Pune-Delhi route, passengers have been complaining about heavy rush.
To reduce the travel time by changing the route of existing trains was made for number of times, but wasn’t considered seriously. The hopes for a direct train between Pune and Delhi were rejuvenated last year, when a direct the introduction of special train for the Commonwealth Youth Games was announced in October.
However, it ran only for a week and was not continued even though it evoked significant response. MP Suresh Kalmadi had also urged the railway ministry to continue the train, but the request was not considered.
“We have been demanding a train to Delhi via the western route, which is shorter,”
said Harsha Shah, president of the railway pravasi’ group. Shah said that the train would benefit more, if it would run daily. She also said that the Tatkal’ facility should be made available for the Duronto express. Read more…
