In a bid to digitize all universities in the country, city based the Center for Development of Advancement Computing is working on a platform to bring about 800 open universities in the country online.
This project has been undertaken by the University Grants Commission to make available all the open universities online for students in the country. This project is likely to take off from the next academic year, 2010-11 for 50 open universities on the trail basis.
The software and technology required to put open universities on air has been developed by C-DAC. “Once the UGC gets clearance, the project will begin by the next academic year. There are various government procedures which have to be worked out and then the online procedure for 50 universities will begin,” said Zia Saquib, executive director, C-DAC.
He was speaking at the workshop organized by C-DAC on Monday.
Almost all major universities in the state including University of Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur are part of this venture. This project will help students all over the country to choose their university to enroll for the particular course. They can also pay online fees and can download study material from the respective websites of particular university.
A demonstration was made to the UGC this year in May and now we are waiting for the government nod
