A General Awareness Holds the Key against Swine Flu Now!

Pune: We all know what the deadly Swine Flu infection had its effects on the city as it wore a deserted look, reason being hordes of people deserting the city because of the fear of the same.

Not much has changed since last year! According to a release by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune the second wave of Swine Flu has already hit the city and its also being believed that its second installment is much more deadly and menacing when compared to the havoc of first one.

General Awareness Holds the Key against Swine Flu NowMuch to the amazement of the virology institute, despite knowing the ill-effects of the virus, people are looking much more relaxed than the last year.

Yes, they are not wearing masks and even school administrations are not into the mood of educating the students about taking precautions.

Nevertheless, since the death toll has started to pile by as two more school students succumbing to the H1N1 virus, now it seems the people are fast getting in the groove for getting themselves educated for the same.

The general awareness about the infection seems to be evident in the city with people opting for the same say general practitioners to know more.

“Many people are visiting doctors on their own accord to get themselves and their family vaccinated. This shows the growing level of awareness regarding H1N1 flu.”

Sharad Agarkhedkar, the president with the Indian Medical Association, Pune City Chapter was quipped as saying.

“Around 20 to 25 people come to me everyday for H1N1 vaccination. This is happening despite the many queries regarding the side effects of the vaccine, which, I tell them, are not of a serious nature.”

Anil Bhandwalkar, the former president for general practitioner association was quoted as saying.

The fever subsides in two to three days. Compared with the efficacy of the vaccine, which grants over 90 per cent immunity, the side effects are marginal. When properly counseled, people tend to opt for the vaccination. Among the two vaccines available, citizens prefer the intra-nasal one as developed by city-based Serum Institute of India,”

He was also stated as saying on different terms pertaining to the diseases.

“The awareness is evident. People are opting for the vaccination in large numbers and we assure them that there are no serious side effects of the process.” There are over 1,000 members of GPA in the city and many of them are flooded with inquiries from citizens. Most of these people are counseled, following which, they usually choose to go for the vaccination”

Nitin Zanker, the current president for the city edition of the GPA said on the activities from the masses on the counter reaction for the H1N1 virus.

Meanwhile, you would be pleased to know that according to a report by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, not less than 35-40% of the current population of the city has developed natural immunity due to the exposure to the virus.

If more people can get themselves vaccinated, then it can be easily assured that we would be able to make a protective shield against the fatal virus.

So, the what-to-do-next course-of action is quite clear.

Keep yourself aware and get vaccinated for the same to gear you fight with the second wave of the virus this monsoon!
