The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is planning to recruit 41 armed guards for the purpose of protecting property tax offices, octroi posts and other municipal property.
Anilkumar Dalvi, security officer of PCMC said on Saturday that the civic administration is implementing various measures that will beef up the security at municipal offices.
He further added that they have nine armed guards currently from which three are positioned at the water purification plants for night shifts, other three at octroi posts and remaining at vehicle repair workshop in Pimpri and PCMC main building. According to him, the new armed guards will be positioned to secure cash at 21 octroi posts and 15 property tax offices of PCMC.
He also said that the iron staircase that the pedestrians use to enter the main building has been removed. It was unsafe because thieves also used the same way to enter the building to steal many valuables. The security guard has been positioned behind the Annasaheb Magar statue to check trespassing over the compound wall. Other two security guards have been positioned wisely, one near the gate and the other in the back portion.
According to Dalvi, in all, there are 343 security guards in the PCMC staff. Also, there are another 315 guards hired from contractors. There are 654 civic properties under PCMC that include playgrounds, schools, water works and various other buildings that need security.
