Bhuleshwar Temple, just 55 kilometers away from the city of Pune towards Sholapur, is a sheer beauty. It is located on the Pune-Sholapur National Highway (NH9). History and Myth:
References show that the temple in the present form was constructed in the thirteenth century.
The myth woven around the construction of the temple should be noted here. It is said that Goddess Parvati who strongly wanted to get married to Lord Shiva danced here to appease him. Lord Shiva was happy and the upshot was the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. Later they went to their permanent abode Kailas.
When you find an ancient temple that dates back to the days of Mahabharata; the era of the Pandavas, the site becomes immensely important as an integral part of the Indian culture. And thus the Bhuleshwar Temple becomes one of the monuments that have to be preserved.
The hill on which the temple stands was known as Mangalgad in the past.
Architectural Perfection:
The Bhuleshwar Temple has been entirely carved in the sturdy stone of the mountain. You just can’t imagine such a beautiful piece of work on such a remote hill. The carvings on the front walls of the temple are an invitation to enter into an altogether different world. The shikhara of the temple along with the small towers on all four sides enhance the beauty of the construction. Mythological figures carved out in the niches of the outer walls are beautiful.
As you come inside you feel as if these carvings are proclaiming the grandeur and the glory of the past. A number of pillars carved out into the hard rock are a proof of architectural as well as symmetrical perfection of the craftsmen of the olden days. You feel like bowing down before the hands that crafted this beauty even before you bow down before Lord Shiva in the sanctum of the shrine.

The interesting fact to be noted here about the Shiva Linga here is that it is believed that if you put any Indian sweets below the Shiva Linga and if they disappear, it means that Lord Shiva will grant your wish. It has been observed that no matter how mush amount of sweets you offer to Shiva, mostly it disappears.
As you climb up the hill, the place offers you an aerial view of places like Jejuri and Purandar. The Bhuleshwar temple area is an invitation to the photographers and bird watchers. The beauty of the carvings of the temple has always been a paragon for photography. Moreover tawny eagles from the Himalayan Mountain regions and Pakistan migrate in this part during summer to escape from the severe cold in the Himalayas. Thus the place attracts birdwatchers as well.
The temple has remained unnoticed so far from the tourism point of view; but it is crowded in the month of Shravan and on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
You can plan a trip to Bhuleshwar any time of the year. If you want to experience the quietude the place offers, better avoid the month of Shravan and the festival of Mahashivratri.
How to reach:
To reach Bhuleshwar one can take a bus to Sholapur or to Yevat from Pune. Bhuleshwar lies 8 km away from Yevat towards Saswad. Once you reach Yevat, get down from the bus. The temple is situated on a hill and hence you will have to arrange for some vehicle from Yevat.
Food:
Carrying your own food is the best option as no restaurants are available in the vicinity. Basically this has not been developed as a tourist spot as yet and hence you have to come fully prepared.
So do arrange a trip to this beautiful place and experience the solemnity in the surroundings of and tranquility in the temple.
