Driving, especially in the city is fast becoming a worrying trend as a point that has been taken into consideration every time statistics is done. Early this month; PMPML drivers, in a meeting held for the discussion, put forward some important concerns about the safe driving.
At this session, organized by the Traffic Police Department, drivers said that hurried riding by two-wheeler riders has become the major concern in the city.
They do not follow traffic lane discipline, overtake vehicles from either side and suddenly move back and forth in front of buses,
the bus drivers said. The nature of this problem can easily be found in the reality if we look at the statistics that there are more than 13 lakh two-wheelers in the city with a total count of about 17 lakh vehicles.
Other than the problems put on the table by the drivers, DCP Manoj Patil pointed out two more mistakes that are repeatedly made by the drivers in the city. The first mistake is that most riders do not wear helmet, they don’t feel need for that, and second, that the drivers are impatient about the driving. They like to be on the move constantly. They should learn to stop and proceed, and drive.
Traffic officials said that the casualty rate in case of car accidents has relatively come down while two wheelers’ accident rate is on the rise.
He further added that as like seat belts compulsion, we are looking forward to make the helmet compulsory as that will help to reduce the casualty rate in the city.
