In a dangerous mishap on Pune-Bangalore highway in Bavdhan area near Chandani Chowk, a heavy blast occurred in a goods carrier due to some friction among the containers carrying highly inflammable chemicals. In an arduous task of extinguishing the fire, firemen had to work hard for four long hours. The blast caused six hour long traffic congestion on the Pune-Bangalore Highway. Owing to the blast, the chemical spilled over and spread out on the road. However no human casualties have been reported in the mishap.
As a part of the routine transport, the Ashok Leyland goods carrier with the number TN-34 D9660 was going from Bhivandi to Pondicheri carrying some chemicals used for industrial purpose. Srivasantham Transports Company in Tamilnadu owns the carrier. These chemicals were loaded in the carrier in Bhivandi. When the vehicle was passing through the Bavdhan area on the Pune Bangalore Highway suddenly the containers in the carrier blasted out and the vehicle caught fire at around 4.00am. The driver showed presence of mind and parked the vehicle along the roadside and immediately rang up the fire brigade department. Police too arrived at the spot quickly and took hold of the situation.
Pieces of hundreds of bottles in the carrier were scattered on the road when the chemical could be seen spilling over as well. When the mishap occurred the road was deserted; as the day broke, vehicles started plying in plenty. The accident caused traffic congestion in the area. The traffic police officers were busy guiding the vehicles and trying to clear out the congestion.
These were the most exclusive and firsthand details of the accident caught by our reporters. We will keep updating the news as soon as we come across something new about the incident.
