Pune: Satyjit Ray, who brought Indian cinema on world map, is mostly remembered by his world famous trilogy. Taking inspiration from this, experts in the film industry decided to examine Ray’s work thoroughly in order to write a book called ‘Textual Study of Apu Trilogy’ by experts from the city based FTII.
Bahadur Shymala and some other working on book and it will be published by next year.
Ray has given the Indian cinema a new turn escalating its standard in the world cinema to the highest level. Ray’s cinematic skills were of the standard that even the Directors from Europe envied of his style of making cinema.
His first movie ‘Patheer Panchali’ followed by ‘Aparajito’ and ‘Apur Sanasar’ defined the Indian Cinema in true sense.
According to Bahadur, who was in charge of the film appreciation course at FTII from 1964 to 1984, the book will be ready in a month or two.
Selecting books for the course was always a big challenge, says Bahadur. And in Pather Panchali’, he found the perfect example of beautiful film design and structure. Bahadur has seen the trilogy more than 50 times and can recall each scene in detail and can even describe without missing a single point of it. “For the last 20 years, I’ve wanted to write a book on the Apu Trilogy’. This year, my wish has come true as the book is in the making.

The book is from a film appreciators point of view. Ray was a true artist and an extraordinary one. He had control over so many aspects of his films.
