A horrific incident occurred in the city early in the morning today when an enraged state bus driver drove an empty bus from the Swargate bus depot and went on driving the bus very rashly, killing 9 people and injuring about 30 people. He also crushed about 40 vehicles. He is said to a mentally unstable person.
The incident occurred at 7:30 in the morning. The man has been identified as Santosh Mane. He climbed on the bus and drove it at a very high speed and that too on the wrong side of the road; those who were coming from the other side were caught unawares.

He drove for about 25 km and crushed whatever came in his way. He knocked off the pedestrians, dashed the moving vehicles and crushed the stationary vehicles. He was caught by the police near the Dandekar Flyover, at the Nilayam Theatre. The police got help from the local residents to bring the vehicle under control and take the victims to the nearby hospitals. It took the police an hour to stop the mad driver from his rampage. The victims are undergoing treatment in three hospitals in the city and the offender is being interrogated by the police.

The incident has left people aghast. When he started driving the bus, the driver was not on the driver’s seat. The bus was scheduled to start for Satara at 8:30 am.
