The scholarships offered under students exchange programme between Pune University and 17 universities from Canada, have been doubled from its existing 25 to 50.
Vasudhara Garde, the director of International Studies’ Center (ISC) said that the number of students going to Canada for further studies has been doubled from its exiting 25 to 50 students at the 17 universities in Ontario. And equal number of students from Canada will come to UoP for studies. She was interacting with reporters here in the city on Monday.
She said,
The academic collaboration between the consortium and the UoP is further being strengthened with the former declaring interest in moving to the area of faculty exchange too.
An announcement to this effect was made by Sheila Embleton, president of the Shashtri Indo-Canadian Institute, during the formal inauguration of the Ontario Maharashtra Goa (OMG) students’ exchange office on the ISC premises on Monday
Garde said.
Embelton was the head of Canadian consortium, before she took over as the president of the Shashtri Indo-Canadian Institute, which worked for bilateral academic collaboration in both countries.
The OMG will play an active role in helping students from Mahrashtra and Goa for choosing better universities in Ontario for further studies. It will also help students secure their tuition waiver and to find out job opportunities during their stay in the foreign land. Grade Said,
Simultaneously, it will also play facilitator to the Canadian students seeking studies at UoP.
The International Studies Center located in the university campus will work as a medium between students from foreign university to help them in their admission procedure and other helps if needed, said sources.
With a large number of students from 90 foreign universities pursuing their higher studies in Pune University and various other colleges affiliated to the university, the ISC works as a mediator in collaborative programmes with many other foreign universities all over the world.
According to Garde,
Apart from faculty exchange, the consortium has also shown a favourable disposition towards staff exchange programmes.
Embelton informed that the consortiums will focus on the key countries like Russia, South Africa and China and India. We also have similar office in China as well, said Embelton.
