Have you ever thought of buying a car which is suitable for your body type? If the answer is no, then it is not surprising. As Indians, we don’t have a car which is designed for us. And, so we are forced to buy a car which is made according to American, European or Japanese standards. Fortunately, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has finally decided to design a car according to our needs.
ARAI has already started the work on the project in May 2009 and it will be wrapped up by the end of Sept 2010. The research will focus on the anthropometric data (that will study the human body of the driving population in India). As per the survey carried out by the ARAI, the contemporary sitting arrangements are not suitable for the Indians as they have been made by taking European population into consideration. The conclusive result of this project will determine the seat size, legroom, headroom, foot room and other interiors of the car.
The manufacturers in India presently do not have a set standard and hence these specifications are done on judgment or on customer feedback
said C V Ghaisas, assistant director of PSL.
This is of the first kind of data work taken by Passive Safety Lab of ARAI which is funded by the Ministry of Health Industries. When asked about the project A.V. Manikar said that “under this project, we are targeting 5,000 Indian citizens in the age group of 18 and 60 years whose physical attributes will be measured and dimensions drawn,” The anthropometric data includes height, weight and key physical specifications of users, which are further analyzed to develop a standard, he added.
In fact, the ARAI has already surveyed western region of the country and now has started to gather data form the north region. They are doing region wise study of India. After the data collection is done, the statistical study will be done in collaboration with the University of Pune’s statistics department.
In my view, such data will facilitate car manufacturing companies to further optimize their designs to suit local anthropometry making driving more comfortable for the local population
Mannikar said.
This data will help various government bodies involved in formulating regulations to base their standards from practical data. Besides benefiting the automobile industry, the measurements will come in hand in numerous other applications namely — apparel industry, textiles, shoe makers, helmet manufacturers among others
Mannikar added.

I do have a few questions for you if you tend not to mind. Could it be simply me or do some of these remarks appear like left by brain dead visitors?
And, if you are posting on additional sites, I’d like to follow you. Could you make a list every one of your communal pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

Hi would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
