The civic authorities have decided that a stretch of Laxmi road will be kept as a walkway. This scheme had been introduced on an experimental basis earlier in this month and now it will be a permanent feature. The walkway will stretch from Tilak Chowk to Belbaug Chowk.
The traffic police have now requested the Pune Municipal Corporation to start other works that will help in the implementation of the new scheme. The PMC will be responsible for constructing a footpath for the pedestrians that will be 3.5 meters wide. It will put markings on the road to avoid confusion and will also increase the number of signals. The road signs and boards will be put up according to the standards set by the Indian Road Congress. This will help in managing the traffic on one of the busiest roads in the city and also guide people about the parking restrictions.
The traffic police on Monday issued a notice according to which people will be allowed to park their two wheelers on one side of the road. They had earlier allowed parking of two wheelers on both sides of the road. But the senior citizens complained that they found it very difficult to walk on the road when vehicles were parked on both sides.
The traffic authorities have put up barricades for the walkway to avoid confusion. They have also removed the small vendors on the footpaths. The civic authorities have planned to relocate these vendors to some other location.
The deputy commissioner of traffic police Vishwas Pandhre said that the citizens welcomed this scheme when it was earlier implemented on experimental basis from November 14 to 28. This plan was made keeping in mind the national urban transport policy. According to this policy, the pedestrians and public transport systems should be given more importance than the private vehicles.
Implementing the walkway for the citizens will not be enough. The traffic police have made several suggestions to make this scheme a success. These suggestions include the construction of a footpath on one side, putting railings for people, removal of all the hurdles on the path like meter boxes, garbage bins, poles and wires. The parking for the two wheelers will be demarcated in such a manner so that people will have an easy access to the shops.
The PMC has been asked by the traffic police to keep some additional parking space in the basement of all the parking lots in the area. It will also take care that the vendors do not encroach upon the footpaths meant for the pedestrians.

With havin so much content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement?
