Various resorts of the MTDC (Maharashtra State Development Corporation) have reported an increased flow of tourists this season. The economic slowdown has not deterred people from celebrating the New Year. In fact, these resorts reported an increase by five to ten percent as compared to last year.

The officials have reported that all rooms of the resorts in Ganpatipule, Tarkarli, Mahabaleshwar, Malshej Ghat and Karla have been booked for the season. Although most of the people in the city opt to travel to destinations like Thailand and Goa, the travel agencies in the city have reported that this season, there has been a decrease in the bookings for these spots.

Kishore Gadre, the general manager of MTDC said that the resorts at Malshej Ghat, Mahabaleshwar, Tarkarli, Karla and Ganpatipule are completely booked. The resorts at Harihareshwar and Bhandardara Titwala, Bordi, and Chikhaldar are almost booked. Gadre said that most of these bookings were done more than three months ago.

The general manager of the Pune chapter of TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India’s) remarked that owing to the economic slowdown the number of bookings this season has dropped by 20 percent and the hotels in Goa have not yet been booked to their capacity.

The general manager of Guardian Holidays, Sujit Katre said that there other international destinations that are preferred by people because they are cheaper than other places. These places include Sri Lanka and Dubai.
