After all the sectors in the country are going online, the Pune division of Indian postal service is the next one to go ahead and put its postal services online. The project is likely to be introduced in June 2010. The postal department will provide the postmen in charge with personal digital assistant (PDA) which will help them record the delivery of the post.
The information of making postal services online was given by the chief post master General of Maharshtra and Goa region, M. S. Bali. He was speaking at the Consumers Meet at Yashda on Friday. This meet was convened by the Pune division of the Postal Dept.at Yashada. People present for the meet were Pune Post Master General S C Jarodia and senior officials of the postal departments.
The Customers of the postal service such as LIC India, passport office, Sales Tax, IGNOU, insurance companies as well as private organizations also attended this meet.
Bali said,
In order to control complaints pertaining to late delivery of Speed Post, we are planning to distribute a handheld devices, on which the postmen will get signature of customers, recording the day and time. In Pune, it is likely to come up in June 2010.
However, we will introduce it in Mumbai followed by Nagpur. The Maharashtra circle of the postal department will be the first one to implement this

Setting an ideal example for other sectors in the country, the postal department in the city has come up with this novel idea which will benefit everybody associated with the postal service. The Pune division of postal department conducted an interaction workshop for representatives of all the renowned corporate houses and organizations in the city in order to understand the troubles and drawbacks faced by them using postal services.
