]A week after city based rag picker’s speech at UN Conference at Bangkok on climate change, the city has found another reason to smile as Roopak Karulkar, 10nth std student of the Abhinav English Medium School, will be participating in an International Conference on Climate Change, “COP 15″, which is to be held at Copenhagen in Dec.
Roopak and his schoolmate Aakash Jog 8th std. emerged as a winner and runner-up respectively in GoDAC’, a Gaming Olympiad of Disaster & Climate Change, organized in the city recently by Neeti Solutions.
The winners were congratulated by Michael Newbill, US consulate, Mumbai. A thousand students from various schools of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad participated in the GoDaC. The aim of the game was to motivate students to act against climate change.
The total three rounds were taken. In the first round 350 ppm’ required them to play five games centering climate change, and the building an eco-friendly house. In the second round, Game Cafe’, students needed to create ideas and develop their own climate change based project. In the third round, namely the United Nations Children’s Climate assembly’, students were required to make the games based on the climate change.
Both winners were excited at their win.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process. It was not a typical competition, and was very interactive, said Aakash.
While Roopak said that he was preparing for the Copenhagen conference by reading up widely on climate change.
