While the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority is yet to be formed, there are several other things mentioned in the directives which are also in the making.
The state municipal corporations are required to outline the plans for dedicated transport fund, advertisement policy and parking policy to fulfill the necessary requirements demanded by the Central urban ministry.
At an assessment meeting held in July 2009, the officials from the state transport ministry had said that PMPML will function as a special purpose vehicle for the operation of buses in Pune city. The officials had also directed that street tax collected by municipal corporations will be included into the dedicated urban transport fund across the state.
The Urban Development officials had observed the policies implemented by the municipal corporations in various cities across the state. The officials had also observed that the fund issued by the UD to municipal corporations for purchasing buses is very poor and needs to be increased.
