After the IPL and the MPL, it is now the turn of the Pune District Cricket Association (PDCA) to venture into the fray with their own version of the Twenty20 cricket tournament called the Pune District Premier League (PDPL). The PDCA has launched this tournament with the main aim of developing and promoting cricketing talent in the talukas across the district.
The PDPL will be modelled on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) and will feature six franchise teams in the opening edition of the tournament>blockquote>
said Ashish Desai, secretary of the PDPL. The PDCA aims to rope in talent from the rural areas of the district namely the 13 talukas and harness their talents during the tournament.
There are a total of six franchises in the first edition of the tournament of which two teams are from Pune, one from the PCMC area, and one each from Baramati, Purandar, and Ambegaon
he added.
The tournament will begin on November 13 and conclude on November 20. It will be played at three locations across the district at the Deccan Gymkhana grounds in Pune, Manchar in Ambegaon and at Baramati.
Desai said,
All teams will feature a total of 15 players in their squads. A total of 60 players from various clubs will be up for auctions for the franchise teams to bid on them. Of these 60 48 will be selected and the rest will go into a reserve pool. As the tournament is more rural centric, each team will have four players from the rural background of which two will be in the playing eleven at all times. Also the team owners will have an option to select three players on their own. These players can either be from the rural background, or from the reserve pool or any player who plays for any other local club.
