A city that seems to be getting internet Savvy, Puneites will now be able to track bus routes online. While the OMOML might not yet have its own bus timetable, city based organization CIO has come up with Pune Transit, a computer application that will aid commuters in finding the bus they would need to get to their destination.
A private partnership in collaboration with Sadak Maps, this application also displays buses that commuters can take an hour prior to its estimated time of departure.
This system works because it is developed on a process called ‘crowd sourcing’. Instead of a GPRS system, information is collected by volunteers with the help of input received from regular commuters, bus drivers and conductors and the traffic police.
How it works is that, once a person logs in and feeds in their information of where they want to go and at what time, the screen shows the carious buses that travel that route, along with how many buses are available at what frequency from the time of departure.
This system has already been functioning since the 1st of April, and no – it isn’t a prank. The current version is very user friendly and has over 375 routes marked with atleast 1000 buses and even a few bus stops.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
