Solving of the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute is necessary to strengthen Indian democracy
said Kiran Thakur, the executive president of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti.
He was speaking at the programme arranged by SM Joshi Foundation at the S.M. Joshi Hall, Navi Peth on Wednesday. This program coincided with the birth anniversary of well known socialist S M Joshi.
The cultural program was also organized which highlighted the struggle for resolving border dispute.
The border dispute is very easy to solve, but lack of political will is making it complicated. Sentiments of residents of Karnataka as well as Maharashtra are associated with this issue. So if this dispute is solved considering people’s views, it will help to empower democracy
he said.
The Maharashtra Ekikaran samiti will retain the 53 year long struggle to merge Belguam, Bhalki, Bidar, Karwar and Nippani areas into Maharastra as they are parts of Mahrashtra, said Tahkur.
Along with the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, there are other organizations which are also fighting for the same cause. There are about 865 villages which are completely dominated by the Marathi people and need to be merged into Maharashtra.
When asked about the political stand on this issue he said that
the leaders in Maharashtra are working under the pressure of those in Delhi.
