If you thought Pune was a safe haven with low levels of crime, then you need to think again. The crime levels in the city have increased by more than 15 percent since 2005. More than eighteen thousand cognizable cases were registered in 2005. This number increased by more than fourteen thousand in 2008. These findings were made by the National Crime Records Bureau in a report on the ‘Crime in India’.
The number of crimes like rape, murder, kidnapping, sexual abduction, and murder have increased significantly in the city. Crimes like burglaries, auto thefts, robberies, riots, dacoity, dowry deaths, attempt to murder, criminal breach of trust, arson, molestation and counterfeiting have reduced to some extent. The road accidents reported in the city have also increased in the city. The deaths reportedly caused by road mishaps have increased from 539 in 2009 to 620 in 2010. On the other hand, the number of thefts has gone down in the city.
The cyber crimes have increased significantly in Pune. The number of cases of cyber crimes reported in 2010 was 32, as compared to five in 2009. Anant Sinde, the additional commissioner of police attributes this to the increase in the usage of internet, especially for the financial transactions. He remarked that “Pune has a high number of student population using the internet and it is an IT hub. People earlier were not aware about what action they could take after a cyber crime. Today, they approach the cyber crime cell or the police stations.” In fact, Pune has been reported to have second most number of cyber crime cases; Hyderabad tops the list, followed by Delhi and Bangalore.
The report indicates that number of kidnapping and rape cases in city also has increased in past one year. The number of crimes committed against women is more in 2010 as compared to 2009. This includes sexual harassment, rape, cruelty by husbands or in-laws, and eve-teasing, and molestation. Shinde observes that the number of cases reported for rape, eve-teasing and kidnapping of women have increased because women volunteer to come forward to register these complaints. Earlier they preferred to stay silent, but now they prefer to lodge a complaint against the wrong doers. In many cases, the offenders were either neighbors or relatives of the victim.
These numbers indicate that although Pune is considered to be safe by many citizens, we always need to be alert. Although the city was once considered to be a preferred place for retirement, education, employment in the IT sector, it is not devoid of criminals.

With every thing that appears to be building throughout this particular area, all your viewpoints tend to be quite stimulating. Nonetheless, I beg your pardon, but I do not subscribe to your entire idea, all be it refreshing none the less. It seems to us that your opinions are not entirely validated and in fact you are your self not even fully confident of your assertion. In any event I did take pleasure in looking at it.

I am taking the Internet seriously now. I am retired and can dive into it. There is quite a rich diversity of information in blogs so I am getting involved and commenting. I don’t understand everything that is in all the blogs that I read, but I like your presentation here in this blog. I have started my own blog and website. I put my site and email in the allocated spaces. I think it is ok that I incuded them since there seems to be a place to do that. Hope so anyway. TheVeryBest2You 13 9

Fantastic blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Bless you!

There are two types of Precepts, one is five precepts (for lay people) and the other is a sense-restraint (Indriyasamvarasila). The Buddha also teaches another two lessons which are the study of the Mind and the study of the Wisdom (Threefold Training.)
