The city based design firm Design Directions Private Limited will be household name in the near future as this firm has designed a water purifier for Tata Group. Tata Group Chief Ratan Tata unveiled it on Monday here in the city.This Swach water purifier will cost about 1,000 and will be used without electricity.
The water purifier that offers low cost mechanism against water borne diseases has shaped up after three years of hard work taken by Design Directions directors Satish and Falgununi Gokhale in their studio in Pune.
It was a tiring journey of dozens of sketches, and renderings and e-mails going back and forth
Falguni Gokhale told Media persons here on Monday, adding that Tatas wanted a perfect product and we provided them with this creation.
The specialty of this Swach water purifier is that it gives you clean and purified water without using electricity or running water. This is very beneficial for rural areas in India as often people living in rural areas are devoid of such technology. This purifier has capacity of purifying 3,000 liters of water at once.
The core technology developed by Tata Research in collaboration with Design center and Tata Chemicals kills bacteria and diseases causing health problems.
Once the technology was finalized and tested, we were mandated to design the container and other features

The most important part of our brief was the target selling price of Rs 999. The design had to therefore be simple in construction, easy to manufacture and easy to use

Among all the advantages of Swach purifier is that the upper chamber which facilaites it’s cleaning by hands.
After all, Tatas expect to sell a million units of Swach in the first year of its launch in India and eventually take it to overseas market like the African continent
