Places to Look Out for:

Lord Suvarnaganesha Temple

History of Suvarnaganesha temple is quite captivating. On November 17, in the year 1998, a copper box was unearthed near a coconut cultivation near the temple, which weighed almost 30 kilos, was 37.5 cm (27 inches) in length and 45 cm (18 inches) in width, and 17.5 (7 inches) in height. The box was covered in mud as it was buried and looked ancient. It had some words encrypted from the tenth century in Sanskrit.

This incident soon attracted the entire mob from the Diveagar village, which were waiting anxiously to discover the contents inside the box. And finally when the box was opened, amidst much enthusiasm and anxiety, a sculpture of Lord Ganesh made out of pure gold and ornaments belonging to Lord Ganesha were found. It was after this incident that the god was named “Suvarnaganesh”.

The sculpture of Suvarnagenesh is made of pure 24 caret gold and weighs 1 kilo and 300grams, with height of 60cm (24 inches). The sculpture is believed to have been made some 300 to 400 years ago. It is said that this sculpture was created to mask a stone idol of Lord Ganesha, which was earlier stationed in the temple. However, it still remains a mystery as who and when had buried the sculpture. But people of Diveagar have tremendous devotion in Suvarnagensh and believes that the god is blessing the place with immense opulence.

Sundernarayan Temple

Also known as Rupnarayan temple, it is believed to be built way back in the thirteen century, under the rule of King Shilahar. The idol is one of the finest examples of sculpture designing.

The four hands of the idol along with the accessories, shank (conch shell), chakra (wheel), gada (weapon), padma (lotus), are carved in such a mystic manner that when seen in a clockwise direction, one can see 24 different appearances of Lord Vishnu.

The beauty of the idol was affected slightly during the struggle of the natives with some foreigners when they tried to steal it.

Seashore

Seashores are one of the main attractions of Diveagar. The grand sea-shore behind Sundarnarayan temple is about 4-5 kilometers long and has soothing sand beneath and the semicircle sea would invite you into the bliss of nature. The place with its unruffled calmness will help you to connect with the divine.

The sunset will certainly be the most gratifying of all sights. At twilight, the sun starts to embrace the horizon and after a moment it kisses the horizon, getting submerged into the sea and turning it saffron with coyness. It is a sight to behold when the waves dash against the shore and get mingled with the sand.

Lazy Starfish can be seen in winters, whereas fidgety Crabs can be found in summers. The place is certainly the one where you can return to nature and enjoy its bliss in full glory.

Food and Accommodation

There are many hotels and resorts in Diveagar with excellent facilities that will make your stay a comfortable one. Diveagar hotels and resorts have facilities like self contained standard rooms (double bed)-AC/non-AC, self contained house – (two bedrooms, hall)-AC/non-AC, attached bathroom with shower and hot water, invertors, separate bathroom/toilet for drivers, and more. All these hotels have restaurants of their own serving varied delectable cuisines.

How to Reach

The Pune-Diveagar route on vehicle is via Paud Road, Mulshi, Tamhini Ghat, Vile, Mangaon, Sai Morba, Mhasla, and finally Diveagar. However, if you intend to take a public transport, then buses are available from Swargate to Diveagar everyday at 12 noon and 5pm in the evening. The fare is Rs 113 per person.
