The civic department in the city has planned to introduce an electronic format ticketing service in the city. This service will be put into force by the end of December. In city, Swargate, Shivajinager and Pimri-Chinchwad bus depots will begin this service for 2,000 buses in the first phase. Presently, this service is available only in 60 per cent buses and the other remaining depots will begin this service in coming 4 to 5 months.
The electronic ticket will replace the traditional tickets issued by the conductor. The initiative will restrict mal practices and will make the process of issuing journey tickets easy
said a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) official.
The electronic ticketing system has already started in Pune, Thane, Mumbai and Nashik division in the first phase, and will be implemented in other depots in the near future.. An MSRTC official said,
Except rural belts, bus conductors on trips to routes including Aurangabad, Marathwada region, Nashik, Kolhapur and Mumbai have started issuing electronic tickets. The rural areas will benefit soon.
The official further said that the above mentioned depots also have trips from other states. The electronic tickets for such trips will be issued by the respective depots. These kinds of services have already being offered by the states like Andhra Pradesh and Karanataka.
The Divisional President of Maharashtra State Transport Kamgaar Sanghatana, Ashok Shinde said,
Training is being provided to bus conductors about use of ticket machines. Some conductors are still using the traditional tickets; however, we have appealed all conductors to update to new machines.
Electronic tickets now in Marathi
