To mark the Charles Darwin’s 200th birth anniversary (12 Feb), the father of the evolution theory, British Library has organized an exhibition that would showcase the English naturalist’s life, his ideas and theory with which he left the world jolted. The exhibition ‘Darwin Now,’ is starting from 10th Nov and will continue up to 29th Nov. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Marathi Actress Sonali Kulkarni at British Library at 6 pm.
This is also the 150th year of Darwin’s most argued theory ‘The Origin of Species.’ This occasion will be celebrated all over the world in almost 25 countries where Darwin’s impact still holds the center position when it comes to the discussion of the evolution of the human beings on the earth.
“People should know about the Darwinian theory, especially students and those from the field of sciences. That’s why we invited students from some 60 schools and 80 colleges, along with people from 12 science organizations in the city,” says V Sugandhi, assistant librarian at the British Library.
There are many events which will take place in order to unearth the Darwin’s ideas and explore them to understand the world around us. The lectures of the eminent personalities such as Milan Watve, Professor at Indian Institute of Science, Banglore will talk on Darwinian Medicine and health at 4.30pm, while Madhav Gadgil, well known scientist will deliver a talk on Evolutionary Progress: Relative roles of completion and co-operation at 6 pm on 10th Nov.
However, Pune University’s Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is showcasing the scientific toys made by Arvind Gupta on 21st Nov. This session has been especially planned for the younger generation to let them peep into the scientific world.
