High-tech System Rolled Out for LPG Bookings

Bharat Gas with a tagline ‘Cook Food, Serve Love’ always tries to cater to the needs of the customers. The pioneer in the Indian LPG market Bharat Gas has come up with the smart card scheme for thousands of its customers in Pune for a better delivery system.

High-tech System Rolled Out for LPG BookingsThe novel initiative will help liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders come to people’s doorstep without making them stand in long queues or ring up repeatedly to get the refill. The system came into effect on December 8. Areas like Katraj, Sinhagad Road, Bibvewadi, Koregaon Park, Chinchwad, Warje, Rahatani and Kharadi will be covered under this scheme initially. Out of over 11 lakh Bharat Gas consumers in the city, 5,000 have been issued smart cards.

According to the company officials, it will be much easier to book the refills round-the-clock now. The company will also ensure that cylinders are delivered to the right customer. The distributor issues the magnetic card, quite similar to an ATM card, to each consumer after thorough verification. The card will electronically store information of the consumer and then the consumer can book a refill by swiping it at the cabin installed at the distributor’s outlet.

At the time of cylinder delivery, the consumer is supposed to swipe the card on the magnetic card reader which the delivery man will be carrying. The delivery time will be recorded and the consumer’s information saved before will be verified. The consumer will receive an SMS about the delivery. This will make the entire system less complicated and more transparent.

Distributor Vinod Rathi thinks that once the customers all over the city get their smart cards, the number of complaints about non-delivery will fall remarkably. He said, “Manual errors lead to wrong delivery at times. Many people cannot get their refills despite booking well in advance due to a busy schedule. This leads to quarrels and an increase in customer complaints. The smart card system can solve such issues.”

Consumer Shyam Bhutada, a working professional said, “The smart card facility has helped us since the booking is as per our convenience.”

Pravin Channe, another LPG consumer, when booked his refill last time, it was recorded as delivered in the distributor’s list. He said, “However, I did not get the refill. The dispute carried on for 15 days and I had to manage without an LPG cylinder. Now, the smart card will ensure fool-proof delivery.”
