A multi-specialty hospital will be built on the Pune-Solapur highway. This proposed six-storey hospital building will be made over a period of two years and will have 150 beds, and a trauma care unit. What makes this hospital is that the land on which it will be constructed was donated by the late Kapoor scion, Raj Kapoor.
The Bollywood superstar, who owned the four acre land, wanted it to be used for developing world class health care and educational facilities. So in the year 2002, the land was donated to MIT and now there are plans to make a hospital there. During his heydays, Raj Kapoor used part of this land to show movies to the villages on a projector. It gave him an opportunity to meet the villagers.
This location has become known today for its lack of medical facility with a radius of ten kilometers and the pune-Solapur is considered to be one of the most accident prone areas of the city. The executive director, of MAEER’s MIT, Rahul Karad said that as the hospital will be close to the highway, it will be very helpful in reducing the deaths due to accidents. The emergency services offered in the “golden hour”. In medical terms, golden hour is the time from the time of accident to the time a patient receives treatment, which prevents internal damage and death.
He added that, “Vishwaraj multi-speciality hospital will be a non-profit venture and all medical services will be made available at affordable cost. Besides, several beds have been reserved for the economically weaker sections.”
The project director for the Vishwaraj multi-specialty hospital, Aditi Karad said, “In the first phase, immediately needed medical facilities will be provided. In the second phase, we are planning to provide high-end surgeries, hip replacement, knee replacement and cancer surgeries. A state-of-the-art cardiac unit will come up at a later stage.”
