Jingle All the Way….

The city can be seen drenched in the colors of Christmas as the fest to celebrate the birth of Jesus is just round the corner. City shoppers are busy having perfect decorations atop the perfect tree. Articles like mistletoe, holly, elves, angel’s wings, candy sticks and jingle bells are flooding the markets.

Everyone wants to deck the tree as per their budget and moods. What you are supposed to do is rush to your nearest nursery for a tree that would suite your choice. You have a wide variety of options ranging from a small tree for Rs 125 to a six feet tall one for Rs 900 and let me tell you; looking after a real tree is really not that challenging as you think it would be.

Sujata Sapkal, manager at a famous nursery in Camp says, “The Christmas tree or Araucaria Heterophylla is a hardy, evergreen tree which requires minimal care. People usually like the smaller trees which perfectly fit into tiny balconies and flats and are easy to do up, as well as move.”

If you don’t have time for decorations, here are the perfectly shaped and nicely filled out versions for you; but of course it’s just a bit dearer deal! A shop assistant at a store on Centre Street says, “Prices range from Rs 700 to Rs 7,000 depending upon the size of the tree and quality of the plastic. All of them are easily washable and last year after year. Some of the trees are lightly dusted with snow’ and come equipped with pretty little pine cones. The branches are strong and it’s easy to weave the string of lights and baubles around them.”

Many people regard faux versions to be a safer option. A homemaker says, “For one, they look better. Besides, the days when I had the energy to bring in the Christmas tree for the season and then replant it in the garden, are gone. The faux stuff looks very real and can be easily cleaned.”

This is not all! How can you have a Christmas without mistletoe and holly adorning the walls of your sweet home? How can you forget the perfect X’mas wreath or tinsel for your front door? What about the X’masy buntings like little socks, cherries and nattily wrapped chocolate, tiny Santas and elves? You can see all this in the shops waiting for you these days. These are some of the things no Christmas party could be complete without.

Let me conclude with what Rosanna Fernandes, a customer I got hold of has to say. “I have so many decorations collected over the years; but those in the market are so pretty that I just can’t resist collecting some more. Tradition does say that your tree should be decorated with a mix of old and new ornaments, so it gives me the perfect excuse to indulge.”

Actually reading the blog should help a lot with comments. Many people just throw down a “thank you” and move on. Not helpful. Disagreeing is cool, but I don’t care whether or not you disagree unless you tell me why and back up your position. Your opinion (or mine) are worthless without some reasoned arguments and (hopefully) facts.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
