Here is good news for all Modern College students. Soon the students from Arts, Science and Commerce faculties will now get access to over 30 lakh e-books, research papers, e-text books and international journals. This is all been possible now due to the newly established digital library in the college. The campus of the college has got a grant of Rs 15 lakh for developing this digital library from the UGC (University Grants Commission)
Now the international journals will just be a click away from the students for reference.
About 15 computers have been installed for the students to avail the information. There are also various links updated regarding competitive examinations and research material has also been provided. Sangeeta Dhamdhere, library in-charge said, “At least 200 students avail the facilities of the digital library every day. For those who study in Marathi medium, there is a language option as well. We are also trying to provide past question papers for studentsso that they can practice before examinations.”
Currently, the colleges are unable to afford the subscriptions for international journals. Therefore, the UGC formed the ‘Infonet Digital Library Consortium’ which provided current as well as archival access to more than 7,000 crore and other important documents like peer- reviewed journals and ten bibliographic database from 26 publishers and aggregators in different orders.
Once the colleges get the permission to join the consortium, the UGC gives access to the e- resources that it has been subscribed to. Dhamdhere also said, “The library covers almost all subjects and disciplines, including arts, humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences, computer sciences, mathematics and statistics.”
