Time for Puneites to soak in some great entertainment, for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is working on a project to construct a 3-D and 4-D theatre at the Yashwantrao Chavan garden in Shivdarshan near Sahakarnagar. Imagine watching a 3-D or 4-D flick that too at a municipal garden. Sounds unbelievable, but the news is true.
In the 4-D theatre, popular storybook, mythological and cartoon characters would come to life with special effects, such as sea effects, smoke billowing out of nowhere, or simply raindrops falling on your head. “The enclosures will provide a real life experience of various incidents or characters with special features and added sound effects. Even the seats will move as part of the special effects. The experience would be a magical one and would be of great fun and entertainment for the young and the old alike,” said PMC’s deputy city engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar while explaining the concept of the 4-D theatre.
While some metros, like Mumbai and Bangalore, have such 3-D and 4-D theatres, Pune still does not have this kind of entertainment facility. According to Pawaskar, the PMC has planned to construct a 30-seater theatre at the Yashwantrao garden. The administrative body will soon start the preliminary works for the construction of the theatre, which needs special walls, ceilings, and soundproof doors. “The entertainment facility will take at least one-and-a-half years to complete. The PMC would incur an expenditure of more than two crore on the project,” informed Pawaskar.
Meanwhile, the municipal corporation has also started working on a project to develop a lake park at a stone quarry in Vetal tekdi. The governing body will soon begin the preliminary works such as excavation, and removal of silt for developing the park and planting of exotic plants and trees, while some other landscaping works are also to be undertaken.
The PMC’s garden department has set a target to develop and open around 100 gardens in the city. So far, the body has developed 83 gardens and has been working on developing the remaining ones.
“It is good that the government officials are trying to open up a 4-D theatre in the city, but there are many other important issues that are needed to be solved first. The concerned authorities should make their priorities clear and then act accordingly,” feels Subha Dey, a resident of Deep Bunglow Chowk.
