Pu La Deshpande Park in Pune (Japanese Garden)

Pu La Deshpande Park, Okayama Friendship Garden, the Japanese Garden, Sinhagad Road
Gardens and parks in the city of Pune contribute a lot in enhancing the beauty of the city. Moreover these are the places that contain ample fresh air replete with oxygen which is a rarity otherwise in the city. This is the reason why city people come to these gardens early in the morning and fill in as much oxygen as they can so that they could spend a fresh day through and through. This is the reason why tired city souls flock to these gardens in the evenings and find a chance to relax their weary minds and limbs. Gardens in the city are important from the tourism point of view as well. In short, gardens in Pune are many and beautiful.

Pu La Deshpande Udyan is one such place in Pune of immense tourist importance. The garden has played a vital role in taking the name and fame of the city to the global platform.

Where is it located?
Pu La Deshpande Park is located on the Sinhagad Road in Pune. The garden is situated on the busy street and still as you enter into the garden, you donai??i??t even feel that you are so much in the city. The developers of the garden have created such a thick green belt here that the entire area has become sound proof and you find yourself away from the common din of city life. The proximity of the garden from the main city is the main reason why you find oodles of city people in this garden.

The garden is also called the Okayama Friendship Garden or simply the Japanese Garden. The garden is based on the famous ai???Korakuen Gardenai??i?? in the city of Okayama in Japan. The history Korakuen garden can be traced back to 300 years.

P.L. Deshpande is one of the most prolific writers in the history of Marathi literature and a multi faceted personality. He is also famous as ai???Maharashtrache Ladke Vyaktimatvaai??i?? meaning ai???a personality loved by entire Maharashtraai??i??. The Pune Municipal Corporation had taken a decision to name a garden in Pune after this great writer. And after his death in 2000, the Japanese Garden in Pune was named after him and so now it is called the P.L. Deshpande Udyan.

The garden occupies a wide area of 10 acres and represents the style, the structure and the culture of an authentic Japanese Garden. The greenery and scenery in the garden is the topic of curiosity among the visitors. Nature seems at her best in the garden. The lush green lawns all around and the flower plants with flowers blooming and blossoming briskly on the branches impart the garden consummate beauty. However, you cannot walk on the lawns as it is strictly prohibited.

Especially during the months of Spring, the garden looks awesome. The artificial lake in the garden is the best place here according to me. The place can serve as a source of inspiration for the poets and writers. Photographers however will be a bit disappointed as photography is strictly prohibited here. The security guards have been appointed here to avoid any untoward incident. Eatables and water bottles are not allowed inside which helps keeping the place clean.

Entry Fee:
