The lovers of ancient and historical coins will have a great opportunity to witness two rare gold coins made for Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji’s coronation ceremony during the three-day coin exhibition, named Coinex-Pune starting from December 3.
The exhibition shall see a display of rare collection of coins from ancient era, Moghul rule, Maratha, Medieval and pre-independence period. The exhibition has been organized at Sonal Hall on Karve Road by International Collectors’ Society of Rate Items, Pune.
“The gold coin which is known as hon (Maratha era coin) used during the great Chhatrapati Shivaji’s coronation ceremony will be the main attraction during the exhibition. Only 101 gold coins were produced for the purpose of gold bath during Shivaji’s coronation ceremony. Out of these only two coins will be displayed in the exhibition,” said S R Bhat, President of International Collectors’ Society of Rate Items.
Bhat further went on to say that the display will have 100 frames depicting ancient Mediaval, Moghul, pre and post independence, Maratha, modern coinage and paper money. Pantpradhan Ganpati coin belonging to the Peshwa era is also another attraction for Puneites. The list doesn’t end here. Rare coin collectors from across India, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Indore, Kolkata, Nagpur and Nashik will also participate with their coins collection in the exhibition.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by renowned numismatist Shauheen Daya of Mumbai. Shobhana Gokhale, renowned epigraphist and numismatist will also be honored with lifetime achievement award during the exhibition for her exemplary contribution to the field of numismatics and epigraphy. Mumbai based Oswal Antiques will bring their rare collection of coins to the venue on December 4.
“I am a great lover of ancient coins and I am happy that the exhibition of rare collection of coins is happening in Pune. I am hopeful of having a great time and getting some important information and knowledge about our rich history and tradition. I think everyone must come forward and support the exhibition,” said Harsha Jain, a student.
