The 10th Shaniwarwada Kala Mahotsav 2009 will be held at the Shaniwarwada grounds from December 25th to 28th. The festival will bring a feast of cultural programs for Puneites. Classical music shows, programs by children, plays and mono-acts will be part of the festival. Noted flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar, will inaugurate the festival at 6pm on 25 December. Music director Pandit Hridayanath Mangeshkar will also be present on the occasion.
“Pandit Majumdar will be performing at the festival for the first time”, said Vijay Kale, Executive Chairman of Shaniwarwada Kala Mahotsav Trust which organizes the event every year. The entry is free for all, “The common man doesn’t easily get to enjoy performances by renowned artists like Majumdar, which is why we have kept the entry free.” said Kale.
Renowned artists have performed at the festival since its inception. The festival is a hit among Puneites and draws large crowds every year. As the festival completes a decade the celebrations planned are grand.
This will be followed by a performance of devotional songs by well known Marathi vocalist Godavari Munde on December 26. The third day will see singers Radha Mangeshkar and Suvarna Mategaonkar amongst others, present celebrated songs of Hridayanth Mangeshakar and Lata Mangeshkar.
The highlight of the festival will be a song and drama performance, “Vastraharan” on the last day. The drama will be completing its 5,005th show. The same evening veteran actress Sulochanadidi will be felicitated.
Five eminent personalities from performing arts will be felicitated during the festival. These include Vocalist Anuradha Marathe, artistes Sachin Khedekar, Shrirang Godbole, Kirtankar Charudutta Afle and danseuse Uma Tilak.
Pune is all set to host this grand event once again and hope to entertain one and all. Make sure you catch your seat early.
