The name Siddhatek itself is enough to fill your minds with utmost spiritual satisfaction. Siddhatek is popularly known as a holy shrine of Lord Ganesh and is included in the famous Ashtavinayak Yatra which is a pilgrimage tour of eight important shrines of Lord Ganesh. The tour begins with Morgaon and one has to go back to Morgaon so that the yatra should be considered to be complete. Siddhatek holds an important place among the tourist attractions as well as religious centres in the state of Maharashtra.
Where is it located?
Siddhatek is located in the Karjat taluka of Ahmednagar district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The place lies on the banks of the river Bhima. From Pune, journey to Siddhatek is an enterprise of around 95 km. The way to Siddhatek is Pune- Hadapsar-Loni- Vawat-Chaufula-Patas-Daud-Siddhatek. Direct buses to Siddhatek are available from the Shivaji Nagar station in Pune.
Legend:
When the thought of creating the universe touched Brahma’s mind, He iterated the single alphabet of Omkar continuously. Omkar is nothing but one form of Lord Ganesha Himself. Ganesha was happy with Brahma’s severe penance and blessed Him with powers to create the universe. When Brahma commenced His work of creating universe, Lord Vishnu who was supposed to protect Brahma’s creation fell fast asleep and demons Madhu and Kaitabh emerged out of Vishnu’s ears.
Demons as they were both Madhu and Kaitabh spelt doom in the universe and disturbed Brahma’s endeavor of creation. Brahma sought Vishnu’s help in order to destroy Madhu-Kaitabh. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati gave Vishnu the Ganesh Mantra and asked to pray to Ganesha. Vishnu went to the Siddha Kshetra and chanted the Ganesh Mantra. Ganesha was happy and blessed Vishnu that He could destroy the demons and so it happened.
Vishnu placed the beautiful idol of Ganesha in the sanctum and called Him Siddhi Vinayak. The place was later known as Siddhatek. Brahma got two daughters called RIddhi and Siddhi as a result of Ganesha’s blessings and so Brahma asked Ganesha to marry both Riddhi and Siddhi.
As per the historical as well scriptural references the place is hallowed by the serene presence of Lord Vishnu, Maharshi Vedvyasa, Sage Bhrushundi, Sage Moraya Gosavi and Sage Narayan Maharaj.
About the Temple:
The Siddhi Vinayak temple has four entrances. The temple created by Lord Vishnu could not bear the jolts of time. Ages later, a shepherd is said to have a revelation and seen the temple. Later in the Peshwa reign, the temple that we see today was built. The Ganesh icon is facing North.
The trunk of Ganesha is turning to His right side which is regarded as immensely sacred. But at the same time one has to be very particular about the sanctity of the place. Only a few priests here are allowed to enter the sanctum of the temple and touch the Ganesh idol. In the premises of the Siddhi Vinayak temple you can also see the small temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Shitala.
The priests open the temple at dawn and offer the daily pooja with all the prescribed rituals. Throughout the day the temple is crowded with Ganesh devotees. The sanctity and serenity here is all pervasive. This is the reason why people from different parts of the country and even abroad come here in search of the much needed peace of mind.
Grand Occasions:
The Ganesh festival in the Hindu month of Bhadrapad and the Ganesh Jayanti festival in the month of Magh are the grand celebrations here.
