Home Science as a field of education has seen many changes with the passage of time. The home science course was started as a course offering inputs in housekeeping, home decoration, child rearing, sewing and the like. With time the structure of courses changed and so did the infrastructure. Today colleges run by SNDT are included among the reputed educational institutes in Maharashtra and SNDT College of Home Sciences too is not an exception.
SNDT College of Home Sciences aims at giving exposure to real life lessons and forming the generations of informed citizens. Flexibility and response to change are the need of the age. Home Science Course formed by the college aims at preparing women to meet the changes confidently.

The college has junior, senior and the post graduate wings to impart quality education and make students self esteemed and self reliant.
1) Junior College Wing:
SNDT College of Home Science is the only college in Pune where you have home science course at junior college level. Courses offered at this level are highly innovative and serve as a gateway to the secure future. Following are the subjects offered at the Junior College level:
- Food Science and Home Management in XI Standard
- Textiles, Clothing and Child Development in XII Standard
- Psychology
- Chemistry and Biology
- English
- Marathi or Hindi
- Physical Education
Eligibility for these courses: S.S.C. or equivalent examination
2) Senior College Wing:
Following are the bachelor’s degree courses offered by the college:
Composite Home Science
Nutrition and Dietetics
Early Childhood Care and Education (Teacher’s Training)

Vocational Course in “Food Science and Quality Control
Eligibility: H.S.C. or any equivalent XII Standard Exam conducted by any statutory H.S.C. board with minimum one paper of English language.

N.S.S. Department:
National Service Scheme is the largest student movement in India. It is an attempt to make a student realize that he or she owes a lot to the society and it’s his or her responsibility to participate in the social events and thereby partially repay the loan of the society.
N.S.S. Department of the S.N.D.T. College of Home Science is one of the most active departments in Pune. The department always tries to instill in the students the spirit of voluntary work. Many activities are organized by the department that aims at giving maximum exposure to the students with N.S.S. director being just a guide.
For the last 30 odd years the N.S.S. Department of the college has been working in Pune campus.
Youth Forum:
Youth forum activities aim at bringing about an all round development of the youth. Among the chief of them, elections for students’ council, Leadership Camps, Youth Festival, Spectrum and Tejaswini Contest are worth mentioning.
Student Council Elections are an attempt to instill the leadership qualities in students. Leadership Camps too serve the same purpose. Youth Festival offers student a chance to express themselves and present their innate qualities.
Placement Cell:
Since last year, Placement Cell has been established in the college with the sole aim of making students employable and self reliant. The cell also runs the career guidance center and conducts a number of seminars and workshops. Personality Development Programmes and English Language Development Programmes too are organized by the cell.
Sports:
Department of Physical Education aims at producing sound minds in sound bodies. Facilities are provided in order to instill the sporting habits in students. Indoor and outdoor game facilities are provided by the department to encourage the sporting events.
