The Foundation for Professional Governance (FPG) has come up with a novel nationwide campaign called Spit Free India in order to get away with the indecent habits of Indians of spitting in public places. The campaign has been launched in the city from yesterday. The occasion of the Indian Independence Day is quite pertinent to show the campaign a green signal The FPG seems to be quite optimistic regarding this ambitious campaign.
The FPG has planned to spread the campaign over five phases within three years. The campaign is likely to make people change their spitting habits as the ills of spitting at public places will be taken to the masses across the urban as well as the rural parts of the country.
According to Indian Law, spitting at public places is strictly prohibited as it plays as a major cause of the spread of the hazardous diseases that include pneumonia, tuberculosis, swine flu, bird flu and many more dangerous infectious diseases. Throat, ear and nose infections caused by spitting are pretty common.
Spit Free Campaign will soon start showing the results. Eminent personalities like Anil Awachat, Baba Adhav, Dr. Shriram Lagu and Kalyan Gangwal are supporting the campaign. Many NGOs working in the cities too have come forward in support of the campaign and offered full co-operation in its spread.
The campaign got a grand start yesterday. People from different strata of society gathered at the passport office yesterday at around 7.00 AM on the Senapati Bapat Marg. A walk commenced at 7.30 AM and ended at around 8.15 AM. Slogans being given to popularize the campaign were quite impressive. After the rally the Indian tricolor was hoisted at the ICC Tech Centre by the Executive Director General of Maratha Chamber of Commerce, industries and agriculture Mr. Anand Sardeshmukh. Then the national anthem was rendered and then followed some evocative street plays performed by the students and a discussion on “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness.”
A few people in society develop bad habit of spitting at public places; but the consequences have to be suffered by many more than those few. A number of activists working in the Spit Free India Campaign have tried to increase the general awareness among the common people through a DVD. The FGP will release these DVDs a weak after the campaign hold its roots.

I think it is better to do it on grass root level . Majority of spitting peoples are poor ……….means then cant read this article. Ya I can………..but i think we need more efforts to do it wisely .
