The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a plan of doubling the charges of tax on each show running in multiplexes in the city from the next financial year, 2010.
The PMC charges tax for all kinds of entertainment programmes organized in its jurisdiction. And if there are changes in the tax structure, then it’s necessary that the issue is tabled before the civic body members and added into the coming budget. This is a unanimous decision taken by all the civic officials.
The tax charges likely to be hiked, will be of around 100 rupees per show in the multiplexes and Rs.200 for air-conditioned theaters per show.
There has been no change in the charges from 2003 and it has been proposed to increase the charges only for multiplexes and air-conditioned theatres
the press release stated.
However, charges for all the entertainment programmes held in the city remain unchanged. The tax charges hiked for single screens, non air-conditioned theatres with seating capacity less than 500 seats, are about Rs 40 per show and the theatres which have capacity above 500 will be charged Rs 70 per show, while Marathi film shows will stick to the earlier taxes.
