India Against Corruption in association with India Art Foundation and ‘I am Anna’ organized ‘Thank you Anna’ rally march from Balgandharva to Chaturshringi temple on Sunday August, 28, 2011. The participants expressed their joy over Anna Hazare’s triumph. They sported the Anna caps, and T-shirts, and did not mind getting drenched in the rain as they sang and danced all along the rally.
Although Anna Hazare’s fast ended on Sunday, his supporters in the country and in the city herald it as a beginning of a new era. His supporters in Pune comprise of all age groups and they wow to keep fighting against corruption as they rejoice his victory. The youth of the city supported Anna quite enthusiastically and they now believe that the activist has changed their lives.
The youth believe that Anna has instilled them with a new spirit of patriotism and they want to continue to support him in his fight against corruption. The students in the city feel the leader has shown them how to channelize their energy towards a national cause. The participants of the march comprised of people from all age groups, but most of them were youngsters. Many of them attended the rally on August 16 and they have been meeting one another for the past few days.
The organizers also organized a cultural program at the Chaturshringi temple in the honor of Anna Hazare. Although it was raining, the weather did not dampen the spirits of those who attended the cultural program. The youth of the city heralded Anna as a “rock star”. The event was made lively by art, music and dance. The famous city based rock band Chakra, performed at this event. Several prominent artists of the city like Manohar Desai and Kishor Randive created their perception of Anna’s movement on the canvas. They made extempore paintings keeping in mind the cause that Anna is fighting for.
Many youngsters of the city recited poetry on Anna and they also danced in frenzy at the beats of the Dhol-Tasha group. The atmosphere was spirit of patriotism as the artists sand songs like Jai Ho and Maa Tujhe Salaam. The joy was evident as people were seen distributing sweets. On a Sunday when people usually do not want to get out of the bed, hoards of them braved the rains to cheer their leader. The event came to an end with a Maha-Aarti.
