Traffic outside Railway Station at Sixes and Sevens

It definitely doesn’t befit the status of Pune as the Cultural Capital of Maharashtra to have overpowering stench and filth in and around the railways station. Citizens are also facing problems in parking their vehicles at the railway station on account of the perpetual situation of traffic chaos.

In case you have to catch a train and you are coming to the railway station, better leave a bit earlier than your plan; otherwise be ready to get caught in the traffic jams on the roads stationwards. This is the advice coming from the mouths of commuters who have experienced such congestions and have always been late due to traffic snarls outside the station. It is a pathetic experience indeed if you are at the railway station in the peak morning and evening hours.

Violation of parking rules by the private vehicles and autorickshaws and vendors and hawkers sitting on footpaths and road space for sales are the main reasons for traffic congestion. Heavy vehicles merrily plying on the small roads and lack of management to streamline the movement of pedestrians have made the situation worse.

Proximity of the railway station area to the Sassoon Hospital, railway reservation centre, district collectorate and the Central building housing all government offices has made the area thickly crowded. Moreover, state bus terminus, PMPML bus stops and taxi stands, too, are not too far from this area. Other public and commercial establishments stand at a handshake distance from the railway station. The area ought to become one of the busiest ones in the city.

There are four main roads heading towards the main entrance of the station and at three of them are always congested. The Sassoon road, the road taking you to Sadhu Vaswani chowk and the Maldhakka road regularly experience traffic congestions. The common road just outside the station is the most affected area here.

Chandmal Parmar, chairman, rail, road traffic and transportation committee of the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) was talking to the correspondents in this regard on Saturday. He said, “Crowd and vehicle traffic management in the station premises is carried out by the Government Railway Police. Traffic on the roads outside the station is controlled by the traffic branch of the city police. Tackling encroachments and other issues is the Pune Municipal Corporation’s responsibility. There is need for coordination of all these departments.”

Many NGOS and citizens are coming up with their own solutions to decongest the area; but unfortunately very few of them are feasible. Staunch action has to be taken against the rickshaw drivers and private vehicle owners violating the traffic rules. Illegal movements of vendors and hawkers, PMPML buses and encroachments have to be curbed in order to solve the traffic problems at the railway station area. A separate entrance for the PMPML buses opposite Sohrab hall along the highway stretch can be yet another measure.

The city traffic department has sent a proposal to the railway authorities demanding an improved queue system for rickshaw drivers on the station premises and a pre-paid system for them. The railway authorities, however are not in favor of the pre-paid system, but have allowed that a traffic police assistance booth be set up in the area. We hope these changes bring some positive results to streamline the traffic in the area.

Hello would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a difficult time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My blog has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization. Do you know any solutions to help stop content from being ripped off? I’d really appreciate it.
